Mass Spectroscopy

Liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry is an analytical chemistry technique that combines the physical separation capabilities of liquid chromatography with the mass analysis capabilities of mass spectrometry. LC- MS/MS technology enables high-sensitivity detection of conventional as well as specialized clinical chemistry analytes in areas of therapeutic drug monitoring, detection of inborn errors of metabolism (IEM), estimation of 2,5-hydroxy Vitamin D, measurement of steroids, hormones and many more.

I3T conducts Newborn Screening (NBS) by the most sensitive and accurate method for NBS, LC-MS/MS, to detect more than 40 inborn metabolic disorders. NBS should be performed for babies max. up to 30 days of age (ideally within 3rd-5th days after birth). Mass spectrometry-based proteomic pattern diagnostics have been used for cancer detection, and the value of this paradigm has been confirmed in other diseases.

The lab has employed 4th generation Quadrupole Orbitrap Mass spectrometry.
