Flowcytometry deals with the separation of cell depending upon their size and granular composition.It is a unique and novel technology to assess the characteristics of the cells from biological cellular samples on the basis of specific protein identification with the help of fluorescence detection techniques. Its functions based on fluids, optics & electronic mechanisms, allowing simultaneous multiparametric analysis of the physical and/or chemical characteristics more than thousands of cells in very short timespan.

The clinical application of flow cytometry has emerged from analysis of T-cell subsets (CD3/4/8/19/NK cells)in immunodeficiency syndromes, immunophenotyping in hematolymphoid malignancies toanalysis of platelets toenumeration of stem cell population in bone marrow transplantation, DNA content and cell cycle parameters in a wide range of malignancies & molecular microbiology.
